Edison Electric Institute Effort Against Spread Solar

The accelerated emergence of solar energy has caused investor-owned utility companies and their trade association, the Edison Electric Institute (EEI), to create a tactical effort to interrupt the increase of the distributed rooftop solar marketplace.

The rapid growth and emergence of solar energy in the electricity market along with net metering policies have caused investor-owned utility companies and their trade association, the Edison Electric Institute (EEI), to create a tactical effort to prevent distributed rooftop solar energy from obtaining more share of the marketplace.

Documents presented to the EEI Board of Directors in 2012 reveal the comprehensive strategy to convince regulators, lawmakers, and consumers that spread rooftop solar is unjust to other ratepayers. Continue their entrenchment of the energy monopoly and utilities and eEI need to smash the solar energy marketplace. In fact, the presentation EEI gave to the utility company representatives their plan with the question , “How can you grow gains in this environment?”

Along with working with lawmakers and regulators, EEI made a plan to determine public opinion and particular constituencies over net metering and distributed energy.
